Is Meditating religious?
Meditation boosts the personal development of an individual no matter what religion he may be in. Religion cannot hinder us from pursuing the truth and observing what is all around us. As we learn to meditate, the natural goodness in us will flourish and we will be surprised to discover who we really are through continued practice.
Almost every religion uses Meditation to achieve the concentration and calmness needed to attain a specific goal. In fact, the Bible mentioned the word Meditation 20 times. Buddhism is also distinguished between samatha and vipassana meditation, which are both necessary for their enlightenment. Hinduism also has several kinds of Meditation like Vedanta, Raja Yoga, and Surat Shabd Yoga or "sound and light meditation". Islam also has a meditative ritual called the Sufi practice of muraqaba.
Meditation will not fail an individual in finding truth and goodness. Whether religious or not, the truth is the same for everyone and everyone deserves it. Meditation will help us to progress in whatever goal we may have as we generate the goodness and love which are coming from within us. Relaxation, clear mind, and extreme calmness that we experience from Meditation can give us the feeling of being one with the Divine. The Divine light is not far from sight as we practice Meditation, and faith would also be a good help in moving closer to it.
