Can anybody Meditate?

Anybody can Meditate !!! In one word: yes. Age, religious background, gender, experience are all unimportant when we are talking about Meditating. Meditating is any technique that enables us to relax our body and our mind and to free our mind of unnecessary thoughts and brain activity. To meditate you do not have to become a member of an organisation or a club, to get away from daily reality, to change your lifestyle drastically, to wear certain clothes or to become a member of a church. You do not have to believe in the usefulness of Meditation, because its usefulness has been scientifically proved beyond any doubt. Meditating can be useful for business people, sports people, children, old people, sick people, foreigners, Muslims, Christians, astronauts, artists. Some people may think that they do not have the right qualifications to meditate because they are too restless. But this is not true at all! At our courses we often meet people that in the past have stopped Meditating. We have often witnessed that with the right kind of coaching, with good advice, with doing your homework before you start, and with exercising together also these people suddenly achieved the results they had always dreamed of. Meditating is not difficult, anybody can learn it and anybody can benefit from it. Unfortunately, there are one or two exceptions. For nearly all people Meditation is useful or at least not harmful. However, people that suffer from schizophrenia or other serious mental diseases should be careful with Meditating. There is a danger that people that suffer from serious mental diseases, get even more locked up in their own inner reality as a result of Meditating and that their illness may get worse. Therefore we advise such people not to meditate, or only under extremely professional supervision.

Young, old, sick, healthy, rich, poor, believing, not believing……Meditating is an activity for everybody. To give you some examples:

  1. Elaine Aron, author of the best-seller 'Highly Sensitive People' says in Top Sante 07/03: "Meditating is also a good thing for highly sensitive people. They must find moments of rest in their daily lives so that they do not get too highly stimulated." Mrs Aron herself meditates for a full hour twice a day.
  2. The university of Cambridge found out that insight Meditations halved the relapse ratio of chronically depressed patients.
  3. Dancing organiser and millionaire Duncan Stutterheim travels to the Bhagwan temple in Poona every year to meditate. His brain-child ID&T organises and exports large dance events, like Sensation in the Amsterdam Arena, with more than thirty thousand visitors.
