"Living to Your Heart's Content"

TUESDAY, 23 FEBRUARY 2010

Riverside Medical Center is gearing up for an impactful day, centering on heart health. With this year's HeartFest theme of "Living to Your Heart's Content," Riverside sets its sights on providing valuable workshops, motivational speakers, screenings, educational information, prizes and refreshments to residents in the Chicagoland hospital service area.

The HeartFest event will take place Saturday, February 27, 2010 at the Quality Inn & Suites located on 800 North Kinzie Drive from 9:00 to 1:30 P.M. Recent heart bypass surgery patients and interested Chicago area community residents will benefit side by side from free EKG, pulse oximetry, glucose, blood pressure and carbon monoxide screenings; in addition to stroke, sleep apnea, smoking and respiratory health risk assessments.

After receiving the HealthGrades Cardiac Care Excellence Award for two consecutive years, Riverside understands the fundamentals of a solid cardiac rehabilitation program to assist patients with the long-term health of their hearts. Many of the HeartFest speakers aim to bring heart health to a new level, offering fun and creative ways to promote heart health. Healthy cooking, Tai Chi and Latin-inspired Zumba classes are just a few of the scheduled events.

HeartFest's keynote speaker Lynda Tourloukis will share her experience and expertise on the subject of "A Heart Centered Attitude and Laughter Yoga." Tourloukis aims to motivate individuals to make healthy lifestyle changes through Laughter Yoga. This type of yoga incorporates laughter, breathing and meditation and creates lasting feelings of joy and health.

Before attendees laugh, stretch and dance, they will also have the opportunity to take advantage of numerous specialized screenings at a nominal fee. With screenings ranging from $15-30, there has never been a better time to assess your heath. Appointments are required for all screenings and attendees are encouraged to book early. Whether participants opt for Stroke Carotid Artery Disease, Heart Smart (HDL, LDL, triglycerides, and glucose) or Hemoglobin A1C screenings, all results will be given on the same day.
