Feature Film Filled With Kabbal &Yogic Meditation

THURSDAY, 10 SEPTEMBER 2009

West Hollywood, CA. September 8, 2009 - from Halo 8 Entertainment

Kabbalah and Yoga are two words that have become very popular in the past few years, especially as awareness of spiritual practices and ancient self-help techniques surface more and more in the mainstream media. Now award-winning film director, Ramzi Abed, has imbued his new film with imagery and meaning relating to the symbols of Kabbalah mysticism, as well as Eastern breath and mantra-based meditation practices.

“IN A SPIRAL STATE”, which stars Juliana Fine (“Goa”, “Anything For You”), Lizzy Strain (“The Devil’s Muse”), and Bianca Barnett (“Albino Farm”), focuses on the path of two Earthbound angels, played by Israeli actors, Ofri Fuchs (“Twisted”) and Adam Meir (“Waltz With Bashir”) who watch over the lives of numerous Los Angeles residents, who are battling issues of addiction and heartbreak. Their main mission is to guard and guide the path of a particularly troubled young woman, Maya (Juliana Fine). The film, which tackles hard subjects and personal pain, centers on the power of the divine, and positive steps to getting oneself out of a self-destructive state of mind.

When asked about the topics discussed in the movie and their relationship to Kabbalah and spirituality, the Jewish Director, Ramzi Abed, had this to say, “Kabbalah is a very big part of my life, and although it is personal to me, I wanted to share some of its values in the form of a film. Life is ultimately a mystery, and no dogma can properly investigate its sheer beauty and infinite scope. Kabbalah, along with Eastern forms of meditation, are methods revealed to us by nature and cosmic forces. The use of Hebrew in the film, the meaning behind all of the characters’ names, the meditation at the beginning and the end of the film, these are all clues towards something bigger. To me, it is these ancient sciences and reflections on G-d, that take front seat in the movie philosophically.”

The film, which will be released widely by distributor, Halo 8 Entertainment, on September 29, 2009, is already making news for its groundbreaking visual style, electronic musical score, and the overall meaning behind its complex storyline.“In A Spiral State” brings forth imagery that is religious and at times controversial. In one scene in particular, a drug dealer, high on hard drugs, makes the shape of a cross in a doorway. In the opening scene of the film, the two angels converse in Hebrew, as they float in outer space. The Sephardic director, Abed, who comes from mixed Arabian and Turkish ancestry, continues to explain, “Faith is a big part of our lives. Much like the holy prophet Abraham was tested, so shall we all be on a daily basis. I want to bring something near and dear to me to viewers, and make them feel the most important emotion of all, empathy for others.”

Halo 8 Entertainment is based in Los Angeles, CA.
