Children also need to relieve stress so they can be happier.
More than 15 kids with special needs aged five to 13 from the RIA Centre, Adliya in Manama, Bahrain have graduated from a five-day course led by the Art of Living. The special class was also designed to improve self-esteem and abilities.
Yoga, breathing exercises, and meditation were taught to the students. Healthy eating and the importance of having fruits and vegetables were also included in the course.
Special education teacher Ann Augustine said the class made a huge difference in reducing the kids' hyperactivity. She said the exercise needs to be practiced each day for 30 minutes.
Art of Living teacher Dr. Brahmara Madduri conducted the course two hours each day for free. She said she was inspired after hearing about an Indonesian instructor who had done something similar to the course. Madduri is also a pediatrician, making it easier for her to deal with children.
Her next goal, she said, was to hold a stress elimination workshop for parents of children with special needs and to teach them about the effect of food on the mind.
