Zen teachers Stefano Mui and Margaret Ne-Eka Barragato have attracted a following with their meditation teachings in a modern log home in Oakland, behind the Old Country Club Road. The Barragato’s home is the venue for the Treetop Zen Center.
The Barragatos are certified Zen teachers who have full transmission from Zen masters into teaching and priestly activities. The Treetop is known for its core practice of the “zazen” or sitting meditation. The members meditate together in the “zendo” or meditation hall located at the Barragato’s garage. The practice of “zazen” at Treetop starts with breath counting. This is followed by an experience called “daisan”, a formal one-on-one interview between teacher and student.
Stefano and Margaret have been married for 29 years. Margaret was taught and ordained by her husband.
