Lifestyle Medicine to Prevent Diseases
WEDNESDAY, 20 FEBRUARY 2008
The Lifestyle Center at Kangnam St. Mary’s Hospital is taking the lead in “lifestyle medicine” in Korea. Lifestyle medicine is a new trend that focuses on prevention rather than cure. A lot of people are going to the Center and they believe that prevention is the best investment to maintain health.
The clinic’s “highly advanced customized treatment” combines modern with alternative medicine such as meditation and herbal diet. Prescriptions are divided into three programs: meditation, nourishment, and exercise.
Physicians and psychologists are involved in the meditation program. They use the “Neuro-Feedback Program”, a brain wave training system in which patients relieve stress, chronic fatigue, headache, fear, and depression. In the Diet/Nutrition Fitness program, there is a hands-on training in which patients are taught to cook their own meals fit for their health condition. Lastly, the Physical Fitness program introduces customized exercise programs that match the patient’s physical strength and body type.
