Buddhism Practitioner to Hold Meditation Weekend
TUESDAY, 26 FEBRUARY 2008
Dr. B. Alan Wallace, a scholar and practitioner of Buddhism, will hold a meditation weekend in Alameda, California. The weekend retreat called Balancing the Heart and Mind: A Weekend Meditation Seminar is scheduled on March 1-2. In the retreat, Alan will focus on two methods for cultivating meditative quiescence, or shamatha. He will teach the practice of “mindfulness breathing” and introduce a method called “settling the mind in its natural state.”
There will be lectures, group discussions, and guided meditations in the retreat. Instruction will also be offered on the cultivation of the four immeasurable factors: loving-kindness, compassion, empathetic joy, and equanimity.
On February 29, Friday, Wallace will give an overview presentation on the meditation techniques and the development of a loving heart.
