Meditate to Have Tranquility & Inner Peace
TUESDAY, 27 NOVEMBER 2007
The most famous expression in the Western world of today is “Living in the present moment” or “Here and now!” These expressions are so common but most people do not know their origin.
The expressions come from “Satipatthana Sutta”. In Sanskrit, “Kshana” means the shortest possible moment. Life is a sum of Kshanas. The only moment that exists is the Present, and Meditation is living in the present moment.
In meditation, we should be mindful of our every action. Mindful awareness in our daily lives offers tranquility and inner peace. You don’t need to sit down to be able to practice meditation. Being mindful of what you are doing is meditation, even if it is as simple as chopping vegetables.
Meditation is a therapy. Scientists have found that simple change of thought process would bring about radical changes inside the brain. Many hospitals in the US are using meditation as part of a patient’s treatment.
