Buddhist disciples at Greenwood, Indiana and across the state are preparing for a week-long visit by the 14th Dalai Lama this week. This is the fifth visit in Greenwood of the world’s most famous Buddhist teacher.
The week of festivities includes performances by Mongolian dancers and throat singers who defy lower reaches of the musical scale. There will be bazaars and a cultural fair. The main event of the five-day visit is the Dalai Lama’s 12-hour lecture at the Indiana University and two lectures for the general public to be held in IU and Purdue University.
Many visitors are expected to come to this event to see a Nobel Peace Prize laureate. The event is expected to generate $1 million for the city’s economy.
