Romantic Fantasy/Everyday Disappointments

SATURDAY, 22 SEPTEMBER 2007

The Shambhala Meditation Center Los Angeles will present "Romantic Fantasy/Everyday Disappointments" a weekend program taught by Judith Simmer-Brown (Dakini's Warm Breath: The Feminine Principle). The weekend workshop runs from October 12 through 14, 2007 (Friday evening 7:30 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday 9 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.). The center is located in Eagle Rock at 963 Colorado Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90041, at Figueroa.

During the weekend, people will explore what genuine romantic love looks like. Those interested in attending may register at http://la.shambhala.org or call 323-255-5472 or email: la@shambhala.org for information. The cost of the workshop is $175.00 ($135.00 for members, seniors or students). This meditation weekend is open to all. People may attend with a partner, in love or out of love.

"There is nothing as delicious as falling in love, and nothing as devastating as falling out of love, " says Brown. " When this happens, we have a unique opportunity to open more fully to our experience and to more complete relationships with others."

Brown believes that Western culture has created an especially difficult environment in which to work with our romantic expectations because we are taught that the solution to life's problems is romantic love.

The class will use clips from well-known Hollywood romantic movies and see the accuracies of the western romantic love. The class may work more closely with the dynamics of passion, independence and intimacy through mediation practice.

Judith Simmer-Brown has practiced Tibetan Buddhism for over 30 years and is an Acharya (senior dharma teacher) of the Shambhala Buddhist lineage. She is professor of Religious Studies at Naropa University in Boulder, Colorado. She has written numerous articles on Tibetan Buddhism, American Buddhism and engaged Buddhism as well as books.

The Shambhala Meditation Center of Los Angeles offers practice and study in the lineage of Shambhala Buddhism. It is part of Shambhala International, an international community of urban meditation and rural retreat centers founded by the Vidyadhara Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche, and now led by Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche.
