The Zen Stick

Meditation, being an act which requires focus, may be difficult in our modern world that thrives on sensory overload. Proper meditation requires a lot of space, and quiet space at that.

Enter the Zen Stick, a so-called “meditation tool” designed to replace the spatial requirements for effective meditation. One simply tosses the stick from one hand to another to aid in his focus, reaching his meditative state more quickly.

The Zen Stick is said to be one of the more effective tools in meditations as compared to bells, music, incense and nature sounds, as these tools only stimulate two or three of the senses at a time, making them ineffective for experiential meditation, the form of meditation where the repetition of an action is utilized to propel one into the meditative state. Zen Sticks directly stimulate four of the five senses: sight (seeing the stick), smell (smelling the stick’s hardwood scent), touch (holding the stick and tossing it) and hearing (listening to the stick’s whir as it is tossed).
