Artist Offers Meditative Art
WEDNESDAY, 30 AUGUST 2006
Artist Dhananjay Sastakar combines art and meditation in his paintings of the elephant-headed god Ganesh.
His paintings of Ganesh come with stotras or Hindu prayers which are written in calligraphy. “I want people to be taken in by a kind of holy nostalgia hence the scroll-like touch. I believe that reciting the stotras will give peace of mind. When my work is seen and read, it will be a kind of meditation,” explians Sastakar. He also says that there is a stotra for every one’s need.
Sastakar’s paintings count to 25 and they are done in acrylic, ink, and mixed media. The paintings show the different moods of Ganesh and to portray the profound and meditative faces, Sastakar used the colors blue and red. His paintings are on display this month at Malaka Spice, Koregaon Park.
