Ask your Subconscious Meditation

Check your feeling or subconscious when you are faced with a dilemma.

Thinking is an activity that involves words, understanding, remembering, multi - tasking, events, logic, etc. It costs a lot of energy to control these activities that take place in our so-called Beta consciousness level, in which the brain emits fast unrhythmical beta waves. In a state of Beta consciousness, you are able to do your work and your duties efficiently, but at the same time, we observe heightened muscle tension, blood pressure, and negative thoughts like worries and fears.

When we are relaxed and we just observe, the brain emits the slower rhythmical alpha waves. We observe alpha waves when a person is completely relaxed and therefore extremely susceptible to signals from outside. This is understandable because we are just observing and we do not have to judge or to think. The alpha consciousness level runs parallel with our subconscious in which we observe, register, and store all our experiences. At this level of consciousness, there is no doubt. All our positive and negative experiences are stored there, and it contains the actual truth about the individual.

Consequently, it is not surprising that at this level, our feelings are viewed as the touchstone of our subconscious. At the beta level, we listen to what our brain tells us and at the alpha level, we listen to what our feelings tell us and in fact, our feelings are usually right and our brain fools us now and then. All of us have been in situations in which we undertake something on the basis of what our brain tells us, while we are aware of the fact that our feelings do not agree with what we decide to do. It is easy to guess which of two aspects of our mind usually gives us the best advice: our brain or our feelings. If you have your doubts about this point of view, just think of your lovelife or have a conversation with one of those numerous people who are not really happy with their job, but do not dare to give up because of the nice fringe benefits.

It is a pity that our society focuses more and more on people's brains and that especially in our childhood years, our natural inclination to live in accordance with our feelings and instincts is destroyed. Meditating is an excellent means to go back to that part of our personality that we have been taught to neglect, because it is strongly focused on observing things with your senses. Because Meditation means using our senses to the best of our ability, Meditation also means that we develop our senses and help them to reach a higher level. The disrupting stream of negative thoughts more and more disappears from our lives and we learn to observe things better and better. When we are able to observe better, we can also make better use of emotions, the touchstone of our subconscious, and make better decisions.

A nice test regarding the functioning of your emotions goes like this: When you are really relaxed or when you are meditating, you ask yourself an exciting question and then you pay attention to the reaction of your voice, feeling, and taste. To give an example, you might say: "I am completely happy with my present job or relationship". Do not think and do not judge, but experience, feel, and look as an observer when you react. Hopefully, you get a positive feeling when you put this question to yourself. But it is also possible that when formulating the first sentence of your answer, you already begin to hesitate about the kind of words to use, that you start to feel uncomfortable, that you sort of fall apart, or that your muscles begin to twitch.

There are many kinds of this sort of little tests and they do not require much practice. They tell you in a way that makes you think of a lie detector about how your subconscious thinks about certain matters.
