Dance Meditation

Dance Meditation There are people who get the notion that when you speak of Meditation, you speak of an activity that only involves sitting down with your eyes closed and trying to focus on one thing. While focusing on something is indeed a part of the practice of Meditation, sitting still and closing one's eyes aren't always a requirement when doing it.

This is proven by those who practice what is so-called Dance Meditation. While everyone is familiar with dancing and, to a certain extent, Meditation, not everyone can easily imagine the combination of the two.

Dancing in this form of Meditation is not equated with dancing in clubs with its bass heavy and hundreds-of-beats-per-minute dance music in the background. On the contrary, music used in Dance Meditation needs to be slow and relaxing.

Dance is the method used to let one focus and let go of the unnecessary thoughts and emotions that bring one down or stresses one out. Thus, the freedom of movement is emphasized here. Participants are not required to be professional dancers, or even at least with acceptable dancing skills. So long as he or she is able to loosen up and let his or her body move freely then the person can practice Dance Meditation or join sessions with a group.

Now where does Meditation figure into the dancing part of things? First of all, as mentioned above, the emphasis on the freedom of movement allows one to shed any inhibitions or insecurities. With these out of the way, one will be able to make the mind and body focus better.

Focusing when doing Dance Meditation may involve focusing on the breathing while moving the body around, as well as trying to look closer at the muscles involved as one group gets tense and another relaxes. At the same time, the music at the background will dictate the rhythm of the dance and helps the person relax and focus more.

All in all, the combination of dance and Meditation can help a person achieve a higher state of consciousness and have the ability to move without inhibitions.

So try to delve into the world of Dance Meditation now. It just might be the practice that can make your mind and your body truly free.
