Early experiences in meditation see a lot of questions, doubts, apprehensions of failure, impatience and intolerance. The question which haunts most of the time is, HOW FAR HAVE I REACHED?

It has been established scientifically and even otherwise that at an average 42 thought per minute cross a human mind, with an average of above 50000 per day. All the misery that the human life passes through is due to these thoughts keeping the mind fully fogged and completely in dark. All forms of meditation and all the religions on earth aim to bring down this average. An average of 5 and below per minute indicates a peaceful, content and blissful life, while an average of 25 and above indicates progressive levels of misery. Therefore, one can measure his or her level of progress in meditation or level of his or her contentment and happiness by ascertaining the average thoughts per minute. However, it seems unlikely that a person would be able to apply this test on himself unless he has been into meditation for at least three to four years.

Try it out on yourself and see if it works. Comments are also welcome.

This 'reaching' itself is problem.Do not move, stop. That is meditation.Stop thinking.Stop thinking of targets. That is what is spoiling the show everywhere. We try to reach, measure, quantify. That is requirement of Mind. That is exactly problem.
Mind has to be cultivated not for reaching but for being, being with the self. And you have reached! You have started knocking the door of the Almighty in stead of looking towards the material world for results.
Write to me if still there is doubt about reaching. In my camps I come across similar participants who want to quantify. There is no quantification there.Either you are there or you are not there.Try and efforts made to reach the stage is not reaching. You may reach in one minute,or if you keep applying logic and reason, you may not reach at all.

I agree with vir...Meditation is a way to escape from our miseries. But have you thought why are we miserable? May be because of our desires. And if we bring the same sense in Meditation and start using some index, i guess we are fooling ourselves only.
