It is an excellent meditation, but how to reach that stage of thoughtlessness, and just being. We all know that the finale is blissful but how to tread the path.

yap, i agree to you sir, maybe I think the simplest explanation on this technique is not the thoughtless state of mind but rather it is a technique which imply the law of attraction which tells us that the more positive emotion we feel the more people more become positive..
buddhism are familiar on this technique which it is called the "cultivation of loving-kindness".
here some except from the book of T. Y. Lee tittle "Anyone can go to heaven just be good"
"then we direct the same loving-kindness towards everyone in the room in which we are meditating and then everyone in the same building, all the people in the locality, all the people in the city, in the country. then we proceed continent by continent, going all the way round the world, filling the whole world with loving-kindness.
finally we radiate our loving-kingness to all beings in different parts of the universe. -east, west, north, south, abovem below and across" -page 77 section 2..

It is easier said,Sir,than done. You seem to be telling here by reading books, and not by doing and experiencing.
For this you must control your mind to the point of slavery, and become totally mindless. Then you may have to develop your heart center, which may acually give birth to kindness and compassion you are talking about.
