There are lots of techniques on how to "control" it, so you try to find the best one for you.

Try one of these after you get comfy...

One way is verbal: Find a word like "empty" or "nothing" and whisper it back to yourself over and over again for several minutes until your head feels clear and you feel you are getting into a zone, which is when you notice your breathing becomes more automatic.

Another way is visualization: Picture yourself at a crowded parade with lots of people, marching bands, etc. going down your favorite street (childhood home, etc.). The key here is to let the parade pass by and let the people clear out until there is nothing but an empty, peaceful street. Keep the vision of the empty street in your head until your head feels clear and you feel you are getting into a zone, which is when you notice your breathing becomes more automatic.

The best thing you can do is to find a place where you will be undisturbed and then just clear your mind over and over again until it stays cleared.

I have to say the most important part is getting your body and mind relaxed. Easy said, but not so easy to do.... Having said that, I suggest you try to sit in a comfortable way and use deep breaths to your lower abdomen. Just focus on getting your breathing as deep as you can and allow it to slow down and become longer and longer. The breathing has such a strong affect on the body and the mind that working with your breath is the best thing to start with. Good luck, I hope you don't discourage. Namaste, C.
