Just sit there.
There is nothing to do,
Nothing to achieve,
Nothing to strive for,
Really !
If you're looking for something, you won't find it here.
Just sit there and notice what is,
be exactly where life is happening,
right now.
That's all there is to it.
Namaste,
C.

Easy to say. Not so easy to do!

Of course it isn't easy, I'm sorry if I made it sound as if it was.
But I just felt it was so important to say, to keep this clarity and simplicity in mind.

Yes, it is difficult at the beginning, but as with almost everything, once you get into it becomes easier, and then without knowing it, it becomes part of your life. But patience, perseverance, motivation, kindness are all important points to help you with your practice.

Hey Carlosk, I am a friend and applaud your willingness to express an easy affirmation instead of burdening your self with doubt and fear. So often people think that meditation is too hard or they worry they will do it wrong. I say relax and walk the path and you will get somewhere faster that way than just sitting there complaining it is too hard.
Who said there is only one right way to achieve a quiet mind? Many of us gravitated to the freedom of meditation, of the communion of self with divine without the meddlesome human hand in the middle asking for money or penance.
Let illusions and delusions melt and enjoy the simplicity of ever present, ever available, nonjudgmental, eternal energy. Breathe deep from the font of ease and meditate with joy and ease.

Is this meant to be taken literally? How can one ever achieve or better their lives by staying still and not looking for anything? Or is this something to say to oneself while meditating, perhaps?

Start with a few deep breaths.Just be there.Nothing for doing. Most important inventions/discoveries were made when mind got tired, stopped doing anything, stopped striving. Once you are relaxed your antenna with the universe gets connected, which changes you in everyway.God.s ways of doing and giving are always simple.
