Hello, I'm new to meditation, never tried it before. I've tried using Brain sync - deep learning by Kelly Howell today (I think it has something to do with theta waves), and after several minutes I started feeling like some parts of my face are numb. There were also some sort of vibrations in those same parts. After a while it started spreading to my back, and then chest. I tried to ignore it at first but it scared me so I immediately stopped. That feeling stopped only a few minutes after I lied in my bed trying to relax. That feeling was also in my eyes and my sight was affected as a result. For someone that knows nothing about meditation it was really scary. My question is, was that thing normal? Should I continue trying to meditate? Another question - can someone explain all those brain waves - alpha, theta? Explain what they mean and what every wave's job is, etc? Thank you very much in advance.

Meditation is good for health and brain. I think you are doing it in a wrong way. Learn how to to meditation, and then try it out. If you try it in a correct way you may find a good result.

Something to ponder about is to clear your minds before starting meditation.

Be at peace.

My opinion:

 I wouldn't suggest beginners try to meditate with music. I would suggest they start with silence, breathing, and visualization. I meditated in silence for nearly 10 years before I started using music with my meditation. I found that music "rushed" me into my zone faster than normal, which I liked because of how comfortable I am with meditating.

I would imagine that a beginner would feel overwhelmed with being rushed into a meditative state because they weren't sure of their feelings yet.

My suggestion would be to try a more traditional, silent approach to meditation before taking on music, tones, etc. That will allow you to ease into it more comfortably.

The most important thing is - don't stop trying...meditation is wonderful.

Used super learning brain sync during sleep for first time. after 2 hours i woke up and turned it off quickly b/c it scared me. i had an extreemly weird dream. THEN I woke up to my body vibrating starting from one point,until my whole body began to vibrate. My eyes were open it felt like an earthquake, and i knew it wanst. Somehow i made it stop all the sudden. "decided to test something" a theory; while my vibrations were occuring. i concentrated on the "earthquake"(vibration) and made it stop. Call me crazy but im throwing this crap in trash. Its te devil.
I was Brain Sync - Super Learning with Kelly Howell with Robert Schwimmer - Composer;

Meditation is wonderful but can be scary. Just fight through the fear and it will be worth it.

You right friend. To fight scary you must keep feel your meditation. Whatever your experiences when meditating, keep feel it. my key on my meditation (dragon meditation) is keep feel on palm hand. This is automatically feel all. You my see on my website. Send me personal massage to see my website regarding this dragon meditation. Or...you can googling and type " dragon meditation" in search tools. Thank you

Wow this might be what I was looking for I had been using the same theta wave thing as you and after reading this I think maybe it works too good. I have just started meditating and I was using this for about two weeks every other day. I would feel energy surging through my body and it felt good and I was happy with it however the last time I used it I got really deep and I saw a light that filled my body with the feeling that I believe was pure love it felt so good it brought tears to my eyes and it was so overwhelming that I got up out of it and i was trembling. So it was a good experience however since then I not been able to sleep (the past two nights) When i close my eyes i see lights moving around even in the dark and it feels like I'm moving. I also feel this weird loss of mental stability or loss of self idk just feel weird. The after effects of this experience has brought fear of meditation and brought back my anxiety I had gotten rid of two years ago. Maybe after a while I will try again with sounds of nature or no sounds and hopefully it will be enjoyable again.

P.S. If you look into theta waves if I'm not mistaken your brain puts them out during sleep so like I said it may put you into too deep of a state.

@teckniec == I sure your meditation does not fill with your feel. You are emptying your mind only. When you feel deep on meditation, you cannot control it.

So, feel your self is best meditation control. You can feel your breath, blood circulation, etc. This is will relaxing and emptying mind but always control your meditation including energy come with meditation

I never implied that the meditation itself is the source of this feeling. I now believe that the meditation experience brought out the feelings stowed away within myself. I had to face my demons to purify my soul. I am no longer feeling as i did. I asked that my fear be taken from me and thats what I received. I know I still have fear but a large amount of it was banished it was simply something I had to cope with on my path to enlightenment. I can't live my life being afraid of myself. I however thank you for your input.

As to what this guy was feeling. If you have lived your life in the physical world the unknown can be scary but when you realize that the energy you felt is yours and your fear is of yourself then hopefully you can overcome yourself.

I know we are not know each other. But from your reply I feel you are feeling of pesimism on your meditation. Actually meditation will made you more calm, optimism and clrear. You are still feel scary now.  This is happen because you are controlled by your meditation. You are feeling your meditation experience then you are pulled by meditation itself. My solution to you is you should be  feel of your self (your body) like i write before.

You feel very amazed with your meditation so you cannot control your meditation. This is the main problem.

I experienced the same thing you are talking about after I had been meditating for 3 or 4 years. I felt like I was being possessed or something and was a little shaken, but I stayed with it. Since i taught myself how to meditate and don't follow any rules, I didn't know what I was doing wrong. What I found out when I got over my fear is that it was a natural progression.

In my opinion, you are moving into a more advanced form of meditation, just as I did. For the first 4 years my meditation was calm and still. For the last 10 years my meditation has been much deeper and more intense. It's very common for me to feel my muscles tensing in chakra areas (navel, chest, forehead) and even shaking during meditation.

Nowdays, if I don't feel that energy surge for at least 20 minutes, I don't consider it a successful session. :-)

The main thing is not to feel scared. When you are confident, you can control the intensity of your meditation, just like Mike was saying.

Right friend. Keep doing meditation and keep feel it. Get shake on meditation is normal. But, if every meditation you get shake, then you need to make it more smooth. Because meditation must generate enjoyment, enlightenment, health. If you shake you will tired.

Now, I am as a Dragon Meditation Master ( and other member of Dragon meditation), some times get shake too but we must control it to better smooth shake and better without shake.  Without meditation or normal activity we are feeling the magnet wave or vibration on our palm hand and other body parts (including chakra).

I want share my preliminary Dragon meditation. can i do it? this is free. There is contain 2 videos.

@GHFLA311

Ya I just did my own thing as well. I'm now feeling well enough to start again so I'm researching techniques and what not so I'm not just walking around blind bumping into things and not being sure what to do. I'm going to start mornings when I wake up and nights after working out (It produces HGH not to mention its nice to relax after a workout). I'm not using the theta waves for a while, maybe I'll try in a few years. If I'm worried about going too deep I can always get up lol . I wish I had a guru here that I can go to but thats highly unlikely so I have to become one I guess.
